Happy New Year!!!
Have you nailed down those New Years resolutions yet? Maybe you’ve given up on that ritual altogether. Lose weight, spend wisely, go to church more, organize the closet, garage, kitchen, etc?
The expectation of New Years Day is that everything is NEW! We believe, on some level, that between December 31 and January 1 the entire cosmos rebooted. This is our one chance for start fresh. We make New Years resolutions in order to make our lives better. To become a better version of ourselves is a way of accomplishing this goal. But what if we shifted this goal a bit. Think about these verses from Matthew:
“Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?”
He said to him, “’You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment.
And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” (Matthew 22:36-40)
Make THIS your New Years resolution.
If you fully commit to this, you will make your relationship with God the very center of all your actions. Christ came into the world and rebooted the entire cosmos. This is what we crave when we make New Years resolutions. Read that verse from Matthew again. Christ is calling you into a New Creation!
See you Sunday!
