Love

Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. (I Corinthians 13:4-7)

We hear it at weddings, and associate it with romantic relationships. But it’s so much more than that. Paul is writing to the church in Corinth. They have proven to be a difficult people. Possessions, power and social standing have distracted them from the Good News. Paul is preaching to them about love in order to fundamentally change how they think and behave.

Love is simply the desire for another to be all they were created to be. God’s love for us exemplifies this desire perfectly. We call it Agape love. Its full expression is found in the life, death and resurrection of Christ. God’s love for us knows no bounds. We are called to show this love to one another. This includes family, friends, neighbors, and perceived enemies.

God enables us to accomplish this by the power of God’s Holy Spirit. Pay attention to how you are showing love to those around you. Pray for the courage and humility to show the love of Christ to all.

See you Sunday!
